PHSE (RSHE)
At Smitham, PSHE plays an important role in helping children develop the knowledge and skills they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and happy. Our curriculum - which follows the revised Department for Education guidance Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (2025) - continues to cover many familiar areas, including families and friendships, respectful relationships, online safety, mental wellbeing, physical health, personal safety, puberty and knowing how and where to ask for help.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that children build their knowledge progressively through age-appropriate learning as they move through the school.
PSHE curriculum objectives can be found below, along with an example lesson to show you the type of learning and teaching your child experiences.
We will continue to share upcoming PSHE learning through our weekly newsletters. Where content may be more sensitive, we will let you know in advance so that you can talk with your child before or after the lesson if you wish.
If your child is in Year 5 or Year 6, you will receive further information before the Growing and Changing and the Relationships and Sex Education content is taught.
We value working in partnership with you. If you would like to discuss any of the learning, or require further detail or clarification related to any objectives, in our PSHE curriculum, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
