Extra Curricular Activities
At Smitham we want every child to have the chance to try things out, to get a taste of the world around them, to see and do things that they wouldn’t usually do or go places they wouldn’t normally go. Engaging in cultural pursuits not only enriches the lives of children, it also gives them the confidence to engage in unfamiliar settings later in life.
We therefore devised our ‘Smitham Promises’. A set of experiences that your child will have the opportunity to access during their time at Smitham Primary School. By participating in various enrichment opportunities, students will not only develop new skills, but also enhance their enjoyment of school life and their overall wellbeing.
Visiting London landmarks and exploring the local area.
School trips and extra experiences are at the heart of Smitham life.
Residentials in Year 5 and Year 6 help build teamwork and life skills.
Being adventurous and facing challenges on trips are all part of the culture embedded through our Learning Heroes.

Take part in Forest School, build a den and roast marshmallows on a fire

2025 Let Your Feet Compete Competition: KS2
Smitham’s performance is called ‘Do Your Thing’, and it’s inspired by the theme ‘We know…’. We know it’s okay to do your own thing. We know it’s okay to be different. We know it’s okay to be ourselves. The children have been exploring this important message – understanding that everyone is unique and special in their own way. Sometimes we might move together and other times we choose to do something different and that’s perfect! Through a variety of styles including jazz, charleston, lyrical jazz and street styles, this dance celebrates individuality, creativity, and the confidence to follow your own path and ‘do your own thing’. The children have worked incredibly hard to include their own moves and show their unique styles with the help of Miss Cotter, Miss Yeoman and Miss Jones. We hope you enjoy watching ‘Do Your Thing’ as much as they’ve enjoyed creating it!
2026 Let Your Feet Compete Competition: KS1 Mini Movers
Our dance tells the story of friendship, trust and belonging. Throughout the routine, the dancers encourage one another, lend a helping hand and work together as a team. Through kindness and support, they show that trust grows when we know others will be there for us.
Performed to Better When I'm Dancin', the dance blends jazz and musical theatre styles to create a fun, energetic and uplifting performance. Through joyful movement and positive interactions, we show that when we trust each other, we gain confidence and shine brighter together.
The dancers have worked incredibly hard to learn this routine, choreographed by Miss Cotter, Miss Jones and Miss Yeoman, and are excited to share it with you.

2026 Let Your Feet Compete Competition: KS2 Team Sparkle
At the start of our journey, each dancer moves as an “I” - independent, unsure, and facing challenges alone. Gradually, we learn what it means to trust in ourselves and in each other. As that trust grows, “I” becomes “we,” with movement shifting into shared choreography as dancers support one another. This is expressed through a blend of lyrical and jazz choreography, with elements of street styles throughout. It shows that when we trust one another, we become stronger together.
Dancers have worked extremely hard on choreography by Miss Cotter, Miss Jones and Miss Yeoman. Our team is larger than what you see today, with 11 of our Year 6 children fulfilling a prior commitment. The dancers have therefore worked incredibly hard to learn two versions of the staging, ensuring all performers could take part at both a school performance and this competition. The whole team have supported each other throughout, showing real commitment, teamwork and trust.
