Admissions for September 2019

Admission to the Nursery

Children enter the Nursery in September of the school year in which they will be 4 years old.  All parents are entitled to 15 hours per week of Nursery education.

We have up to 52 places available in our nursery and these will be allocated on the basis of the following criteria and in order of priority:

  1. Educational, medical or social need
  2. The child has a sibling attending Smitham Primary School
  3. Special, exceptional circumstances
  4. Geographical location to the school

On the Nursery application form, you are able to state a preference for which sessions you would like.  The morning session is always the most popular and is regularly oversubscribed. When the number of applications exceeds the number of places available in either the morning or afternoon, we use the criteria outlined above to allocate these sessions.

30 hours funded Nursery places for working parents

Eligible working parents are entitled to  30 hours free Nursery care. We are pleased to say that Smitham Nursery is registered for this scheme and will be able to offer your Nursery age child a place for 6 hours per day during termtime.

Please visit the government website: Childcare Choices to see if you are eligible.

To be considered for a place, parents should apply directly to the school by 15th January; places cannot be guaranteed. Application forms are available from the Office or by clicking on the link below.

Entry to the nursery does not guarantee a place at Smitham Primary School.

In-Year Admissions

Occasionally spaces are available in year groups other than Reception.  Please contact the office to enquire about available places.

Admission to Smitham Primary School

The children enter the school full time during the autumn term of the academic year in which they will be five years old.

All applications for the school are processed by the Local Authority(LA)  and not directly by the school.
